Michael brings a unique perspective as both clergy and sociologist/professor well versed in both Western and Eastern Orthodox Christian tradition.

For almost 40 years, he has served as a parish pastor, alongside teaching and research. He has written about his pastoral experiences and examined the importance of community, not only for church but for meaning and depth in one's life in athe recently published "Community as Church, Church as Community" This work also deals with our need, in a diverse America, to cross into other cultures and religious traditions with respect, learning from them and becoming deeper persons from this encounter.
We are fortunate that Michael is also a member of the congregation at St Barnabas and loves to share his wisdom and experience with us whenever he can.  Thus, Michael hosts a weekly (Wednesdays at noon) "Lunch with Michael" series that s available on Zoom and later available on YouTube.  An always interesting discussion followed by interactive question and answer period topics range form early Christian - and even pre-Christian holy figures to more contemporarty examples of holy lives.  Recent topics have included such chronologically diverse individuals as John the Baptist, Mother Maria Skobtsova, and Thomas Merton.

Please join us for Lunch with Michael at the link on the Home Page.  If you are unable to join in real time you can view later on YouTube. Just enter St Barnabas Borrego Springs - Episcopal Church in the YouTube search bar.
